STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pretty In Pink Faux Fur

February 20th, 2015 at 2:00am

One of the most fabulously fun winter trends to emerge in the past couple years has been colorful faux fur. It puts a wonderfully bright spin on a winter classic and has been loved by the fashion scene. I have been admiring colorful fur from afar, enjoying how it adds a bit of humor and lightness to wardrobes. It is so incredibly refreshing to see someone walk past you with their head held high in a thrifted raspberry pink fur jacket. That’s exactly how I was feeling when I spotted this Fashionista. I could not stop staring, both envious and downright giddy at how amazing she looked. I had not expected to spot color around campus, and it completely brightened my day.

This Fashionista had fun with her entire look, featuring her jacket prominently but using quirky accessories to personalize it. When I spotted her, she immediately reminded me of Cher from Clueless with her boldness and energy, but she also reminded me of Andie in Pretty in Pink with her affinity for the titular hue and commitment to her personal style. She stayed with a neutral, dark palette. She chose a black textured sweater and dark wash jeans to serve as her base. She brought plenty of attitude and personality with her perfect accessories. She goes all out with a statement necklace and some of the cutest bracelets I have ever seen. I am especially obsessed with her kate spade new york glasses bracelet. It is like a wearable piece of pop art, and it’s so fun. The shiny metal accents on her black booties and backpack finish off this Fashionista’s fun look in a chic but entirely fresh way. The look adds a very welcome dose of brightness to the dreary winter days.

To achieve this look on your own, find some colorful faux fur. Make sure to center your look around that vivid piece, and do so in your own style! Find accessories that punch up the volume and express your personality. Use metallic hardware to your advantage, whether accenting your shoes, jewelry or bag. Winter can be a drag, so why not have fun? Remember that fashion is about expression and enjoying what you wear! Why not go all the way?
