Being the Fashionista that you are, I’m sure that the laid back college style really cramps your style. I know the feeling — being surrounded by so many people wearing sweats, college sweatshirts and workout clothes makes it hard to find motivation to even try. Especially now that the quarter is coming to a close, and everyone’s burned out. It’s just so much easier to follow the crowd, and bum it out in lululemon pants and comfy sneakers. It definitely eliminates the problem of having to worry about how much those cute shoes blister your feet, or how you have to sit a certain way because your pants are too tight if you slouch. I will also admit, it’s nice to get to sleep in an extra couple of minutes too if I know it’s “test day, sweats day.”
However, this Fashionista proves it is still very much possible to dress comfortably and look chic while doing it. Here she dons some fun, tribal print jogger pants with a cozy, mustard colored sweater. However, she polishes up her loungewear look with a sleek blazer and cool accessories. The blazer provdies structure to this Fashionista’s outfit, and offsets the baggy, loose fits of her sweater and pants. I personally look very boxy when I wear blazers, so if you have the same problem, throw on a black leather jacket instead to get that same, sleek look.
When accessorizing, instead of defaulting to the typical statement necklace, opt for unconventional statement jewelry with a body chain like this Fashionista. Top it off with a cute backpack rather than a purse because, let’s be honest, a backpack is just way more functional and comfortable than lugging around a purse filled with books and a laptop.
The trick to pulling off a “polished cool” look is all in the balance of proportions. If you wear a slouchy sweater, try some super skinny black pants, like these Minnie pants from J.Crew paired with black heeled boots for a streamlined look. The same works if you’re wearing a loose pair of trousers, go for a fitted look on top so you’re not completely swallowed in baggy clothing. It’s all in the balance.
