STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pocketful of Sunshine

Style Advice of the Week

Fall is the season that welcomes change with open arms. Leaves change colors, the air becomes crisp and pumpkin spice lattes are ever so prevalent in every students diet. A change in weather brings a transition in clothing to layers, tall boots and scarves. We begin to see clothing infused with the colors of fall, especially through prints. Floral prints were trending throughout summer and appear to be integrating themselves into the autumn season, especially through those with a harvest-like touch!

Expanding on the trending floral prints, sunflowers make for the perfect seasonal transition. What a better way to fully embrace the new season than by incorporating aspects of fall into your clothing!

This Fashionista truly embraces the harvest season through her sunflower printed chemise. The bright golden tones caught my eye along with her high-waisted denim skirt and high-top Converse Chuck Taylor’s. I must say I was inspired by this Fashionista’s iconic look, which brought me back to the ’90s. She shows an appreciation for both the autumn season and the past through her vintage-inspired ensemble. Her button-down is unique for many reasons. The spirited floral pattern flows perfectly with the casual cropped fit and short sleeves of her top. The shirt ties right above her waist, in which she pairs another ’90s inspired element of denim. We all know the influence that denim had on the ’90s. It was incorporated into every outfit in some way or another, so naturally with a print from the past a high-waisted denim skirt is the perfect match! This Fashionista completes her iconic look with minimal accessories. She dons a pair of classic high-top Converse in white, and retro Ray-Ban sunglasses.

For a similar effortlessly cool look, embrace the floral trend and choose a sunflower printed piece that you can find at American Apparel. They offer the seasonal print in dresses, shorts and even shoes! Switch it up and choose a printed skirt and pair it with a chambray top such as this one from NASTY GAL. If you want to incorporate sunflowers into your style in a different way, opt for a pair of printed shoes in which you can pair with high-waisted denim jeans in a light acid wash and a cable knit sweater for a grunge appeal.

Embrace the changing of seasons and add a bit of flower power to your wardrobe for the perfect fall look!
