When I do my weekly “style stalk” to find Fashionistas and Fashionistos around campus, I normally find a good people-watching spot to wait for a well-dressed student to walk by. Then, once I see somebody I casually go up to them, ask them about their outfit and it goes from there.
That is not how I met this Fashionista.
I saw her amazing printed pants from across the campus and I am not embarrassed to say that I called out to her and ran like someone out of an airport scene from a rom-com to catch up with her.
I was determined not to let this Fashionista and her standout pants go! Printed bottoms are a great way to inject a bit of pattern and colour into an otherwise monochromatic winter wardrobe and this Fashionista’s pair (which she told me is from the new Ksubi collection) was a perfect example of the trend.
If you’re used to sporting black and white neutral pieces during the colder months, take some inspiration from this Fashionista’s look and incorporate a patterned piece into your outfit. Wearing bold bottoms definitely makes a statement without having the intensity of a top-to-toe colourful outfit, so it’s a great way to ease yourself into wearing prints.
I love that this Fashionista’s pair aren’t just printed, but are covered with a ’90s-esque black and gold “alter” print, which is very reminiscent of the scarf print we’ve been seeing from a number of fashion houses like Hermes and Versace over the last few months. Plus wearing punchy pants means you can get away with keeping the rest of your outfit low key like this Fashionista does, as she finishes off her look with simple black pieces and minimal accessories. Work patterned pants into your own wardrobe by opting for jeans like this Fashionista, or give printed look-at-me leggings a go, or try a pair of loud shorts over tights for the colder weather.
For perfect pin-spiration like hers, this Fashionista was definitely worth the chase!
