Fall is finally here! The leaves are changing colors and the crisp air is setting in. With the changing of seasons, comes a changing of attire. Here at High Point University, the annual Greek Week just ended, and with it went the warm weather. Greek Week is an entire week where the Greeks show their pride, their spirit and unity as a whole community. Each day throughout the week calls for different spirit wear, however, the one day that stays the same each week is Pin Attire.
Pin Attire presents a day of the week that members of sororities and fraternities wear formal attire to class with the addition of their “pins.” Being in the south, pin attire is generally preppy. During the warmer months you can find your fair share of spirited Lilly Pulitzer among the ladies, and the men donning Vineyard Vines pastel shorts. However, with the fall weather here, the brighter hues of summer are beginning to fade to darker, richer tints.
I spotted this preppy Fashionista in her color-blocking ensemble. Her trendy kelly green blouse caught my eye against her deep navy tailored skirt. The beginning of the cool weather allows for lighter blouses to be worn, and this Fashionista dons the perfect airy blouse with pom-pom detailing for a playful touch. Her navy mini pencil skirt is an essential piece for every wardrobe. The classic fit and navy color create for the perfect juxtaposition with her loose-fitting, green chiffon blouse. This Fashionista’s simple gold jewelry includes sorority staples of monogrammed necklaces and Alex and Ani stacked charm bracelets. She finishes off her look with a pair of nude flats with raised gold heel.
To achieve fall-inspired pin attire perfection like this Fashionista, look for lighter blouses such as this one from J.Crew, or try an embellished chambray and pair it with a cardigan or blazer for a more sophisticated look. A skirt with a triangular slit, such as this one from ASOS is a different approach to the classic structured pencil skirt and this wool chevron skirt is inviting to the fall weather. To top off your look, take a timeless flat in a leopard print for a bit of edge.
As pin attire arrives each week, be sure to dress for success with classic tailored pieces mixed with those that suggest movement. Oh, and do not forget your pins!
