STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pick Your Poison

You know how people say that “you can’t please everyone?”

Well, it is true. There is going to be something that someone is not too happy about. Why? Who knows, you’re basically flawless, so there is no actual reason, but ya know, drama is also a must and it spices things up. Makes things more interesting, yea?

Maybe. If someones going to have a huff about something, why not let it be something that you do strongly and that you connect with on a level that they will never understand. Because it also connects with you and they don’t need to understand; they just need to gawk as you walk by.

When I met this Fashionista it was during our photography class. She is a junior with an advertising/public relations major, so the class was actually relevant to her studies, mine—not so much. The first time I noticed her, she was wearing knee highs and I made a note in my head about how cute her outfit was and how I got a tad bit jealous with how easily she made this look work. When I decided to ask her about being apart of this post, I figured out her name by asking someone “Do you know who the girl that wears the knee highs is?” To my surprise, they knew exactly who I was talking about, and that got me thinking, what better way to be known, than by something you do often, well and confidently?

So, on that note of thought, my advice to you is to find your thing, like THE thing. It’s gotta be something that makes you feel good, something that helps people define you.

Something that other people might not like, for who knows what reason, but nonetheless, something that connects to you. Be that a sport, a necklace your grandmother gave you, they way you dye your hair, the way you walk, how you make someone feel when they are talking to you, how you smile, what you do when someone asks you for help or anything else for that matter. Find your thing and let it be yours.

Own it, hit them with your best shot, your signature style. Have that one thing that when people see it they know it’s you and they can’t deny it’s you. Kill that part of them that made them feel they didn’t want to know anything about you, because like it or not they know it is you. Let your favorite thing become your weapon, use it to rally the greatest of friends and bare it in front of your toughest competitors. Show them what you’ve got!
