Style Advice of the Week

While you can have fun with different winter coats, wearing the same ones over and over, day in and day out gets boring. Hats, scarves and leather gloves are necessary winter commodities, but there are other ways to jazz up your winter look. I found this Fashionista wearing a personalized pin. While the story behind the pin was quite humorous, as it was in honour of a fan club of the man on the pin, I was quite taken with it because it added a unique twist to her winter jacket.

Nordstrom created this cheeky little tutorial on where to wear your pin. While the lapel on your jacket seems like the most obvious and historic spot to wear your brooch or pin, there are many other clever ways to sport your new accessory. My new favourite spot to wear my pins will be over the top button on collared shirts!

If you are crafty enough, there are lots of great ideas on how to make your own personalized pin. Beads, buttons, bobby pins and glitter are some, but the number of materials you can use are certainly not limited. Or, you can just buy someone else’s crafty invention. Etsy has some lovely brooches that are very chic.

Most of you probably bought a corsage for your prom date in high school. Who says that that has to be a male trend? Not I. While real flowers do hold something romantic, they aren’t up for the battle against Mother Nature’s winter cold. A fake flower or flower mimic alternative is probably your best bet instead of a real one — save those for summer when you can put them in your hair!
