It’s no secret that St. Augustine is a tourist hot spot. Being the Nation’s Oldest City, we have more historical landmarks, museums and themed restaurants than an amusement park. You’d think that with the constant flow of visitors from all over the country, even all over the world, we’d be blessed with an eclectic variety of fashion trends, too. Alas, on any given day you’re ten times more likely to spot a campy St. Augustine hooded sweatshirt and a fanny pack rather than a trendy leather jacket and a killer pair of shoes.
Now that we’re on summer break, I find myself playing tourist on days when I have down time. With so many amazing sights, it seems foolish to not take advantage. While strolling the Castillo de San Marcos on a dull, rainy day I was super pleased to come across this Fashionista, who looked beyond chic while seeing the sights.
This week’s featured Fashionista claimed to be inspired by Parisian style when putting together this ensemble. She starts with a classic wardrobe staple–a navy and white striped shirt. She pairs the simple top with a pair of navy, high-waisted trousers and an indigo cropped pea coat. She accessorizes with an adorable pair of triangle, stud earrings and completes the outfit with a pair of pink sandals and some pink lipgloss. Her look is classic, almost Audrey Hepburn-esque, and it’s hard not to adore.
If you’d like to replicate this Fashionista’s look, start with a simple striped shirt. I think that’s an item everyone should have in their closet. Pair the top with a pair of skinny jeans or dress it up a bit with a circle skirt. Complete the look with a pair of flats–perfect for long walks around historical monuments.
Above all, don’t catch yourself being a cliché tourist, no matter where your travels take you.
