STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pep Your Look

June 17th, 2015 at 2:00am

The peplum top is an essential item in every woman’s wardrobe. Peplum was first known as a short overskirt, but not attached to a fitted jacket, which is where the current silhouette originated. For a long time, this simple silhouette has remained consistently fashionable. This Fashionista is wearing a forest green peplum top, shiny black leggings, a vibrant blue pendant necklace and white Converse.

When thinking of the peplum top, I think of two words: classic and simple. It is a top that is fit for comfort but is versatile for any occasion. Pair it with a blazer to wear to your summer internship, or with a light wash jean jacket for an outdoor concert. Fashionistas, you can never go wrong with this type of top because it’s flattering and functional. As always, a necklace will dress this up. Try a pencil skirt instead of jeans with a peplum top and you can really make a statement in this comfy silhouette. This Fashionista keeps it ultra causal without looking frumpy. She keeps is sweet and simple, a nice combination for a busy summer day.

This Fashionista accessorizes and personalizes her look with a pretty blue St. Christopher necklace. The peplum’s deep, gorgeous green offers a beautiful contrast to the bright lime greenery of summer. Nothing completes a summer outfit more than a worn-in, classic pair of white Converse. They are the perfect companion to the constant movement and activity that fill your busy summer days. As you can see, I truly recommend the element of comfort in a summer look, and with a peplum top and comfy sneakers, you can’t go wrong.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Rediscover you inner child by busting out the arts and crafts bin to make beaded or braided bracelets with you best gal pals. These are fun ways to bring back those childhood summer camp memories and add a little hand made color to your outfit.”

I am currently a student at St. Norbert College, studying Communication with a Media Concentration. Even though I go to a school in Wisconsin or what I like to call it the “Cheese State”, Illinois will always stay close to my heart because that is where I was born and raised as a kid. I enjoy taking vacations with my family and going to concerts with my friends. I like anything that is the color pink and one of my favorite places to shop at is J.Crew. I would describe my style as girly, preppy, comfortable and fun. I look forward to another fun summer as a Style Guru at CollegeFashionista. Here's to a rad summer, Molly
