STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Peek-A-Boo Cutouts

June 4th, 2015 at 2:10am

I will be the first to say that I am not a fan of dresses. There it is. I said it. My mother is an eye witness to this testimonial. Although I would rather strut my stuff in a pair of sweats that are fashionable, cute and comfortable at the same time, hence my first Style Guru post, I do have a handful (and I mean a handful) of dresses that I can’t help but love in my wardrobe.  When I spotted this Fashionista on the rooftop garden of the Museum of Modern Art sporting a cutout floral dress, I had to stop and say “WHOA.”

This Fashionista paired her floral cutout dress with a black floppy hat, a subtle delicate necklace and a pair of black boots to take on the city’s streets. What’s awesome about cutout dresses is that some are so subtle you won’t even notice it’s there, but you’ll definitely feel the extra ounce of summer breeze. In this particular dress, the cutouts are in the back so it’s like having the business in the front and then party in the back!

As we know, Science 101 tells us that black attracts the sun which makes you hotter and  no one wants to be even more hot when it’s already 80 degrees outside. True, but in this case, ignore all the rules of science that says black is your worst nightmare in the summer  because having a cutout totally cheats the system. Wear your black floral cutout dress proudly because rules, especially fashion rules, are meant to be broken.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF WEEK?: “Dresses are an essential in my closet! They’re easy to throw when you want to run out the door and the weather is warm. Plus, my dress has a cutout in the back so I can take off my jacket and instantly I’m like a hundred degrees cooler. If you don’t want to look forward to those crazy tan lines, wear sunscreen beforehand!
