STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Patterned, Faux Leather Can Be Fierce

February 26th, 2015 at 2:00am

While it’s snowing and raining in other parts of the world, and I am truly sorry for that, here in California we’ve been experiencing a bit of a heat wave for this time of year. People have dared to bare their legs for the last few weeks, and that has produced some pretty amazing results.

When people say, “You have to wear a plain shirt with a faux leather skirt,” they’re clearly lying. Though typically worn in the form of a killer motto jacket, faux leather is something you can really dress up or dress down. It takes a special kind of person to rock a faux leather skirt so confidently, so when I saw this Fashionista I knew I had to stop her.

Where I live, faux leather isn’t something you typically see because everyone is content in wearing the ever-casual jeans and a T-shirt. The perfect way to spring up a faux leather skirt while still keeping it cool and casual enough for class is to pair it with your favorite button-down or printed graphic blouse. Going busy at the top and keeping it simple at the bottom is a great way to get in color while not sacrificing the overall feel.

One of the ways to project that you are going for comfort is to slip on a pair of sneakers. They will get you through the day without making your feet hurt, and now that people are realizing that skirts and sneakers are a trend (okay, they realized that about two years ago), retailers are more inclined to make them stylish enough to be paired with the boldest of looks. Take a note from this Fashionista, and pair a neutral skirt with a busy top, sneakers and delicate jewelry. You will be on-trend and looking great for class while not being too overdressed.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Faux leather can be fun when worn in a new way.”
