STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Pattern Perception

Everybody loves a fun pattern, right? But as Fashionistas, we’re often faced with the daunting challenge of what to wear with a certain pattern. This can be made even harder when you have an urge to rock two different patterns at once. Is it safe to pair a tribal pattern with stripes? Should you even dare wear a polka-dot pattern with floral? This Fashionista sets out to answer these questions by doing what we all secretly strive to do—wearing a trendy outfit with clashing patterns.

I spotted this Fashionista on the streets of College Park and took note at how formal and dressy her look was while remaining fun. She did this all by pairing two opposing clothing pieces together. Her striped blazer gives the outfit a nautical feel while the intricate leaf pattern keeps the look flirty. When an outfit has such an eye-catching aura about it, it is important to keep the accessories minimal. This Fashionista sticks to this advice by adding nude flats and simple silver jewelry.

If this Fashionista teaches us anything, it’s that the most important thing about mix-and-matching patterns is to not go overboard. If patterns clash, try pairing colors schemes to keep the look subtle.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Whenever you have a dress, pair it with a complementary blazer or cardigan. In this case, I thought the colors really worked well together. It makes an outfit fun when colors or patterns are not exactly what go together but somehow work well.”
