STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Paisley Perfect

The stifling July heat can be unbearable, especially if you’re wearing heavy material. Although we all would much rather be cooling off by the pool, choosing a breathable material can make these days a bit more tolerable. The streets of downtown New York City are filled with stylish Fashionista/os who seem to have mastered the art of heat wave-friendly pieces, while simultaneously incorporating fresh patterns into their looks. If you feel like florals are so last season, these Fashionista/os have proven there are countless patterns to try this summer.

I’m starting to see more paisley patterns in everyday looks this season. What I’ve noticed is that it can work in both simple and complex situations. This amount of versatility makes it easy to incorporate this trend into any wardrobe. With the right color palette and accessories, this pattern can make a simple look more interesting.

I was walking around in a restricting button-down shirt, regretting that I underestimated the 85 degree forecast, when I ran into this Fashionista. Unlike me, she seemed completely comfortable in her ensemble—a lightweight peasant top, a pair of high-waisted shorts and strappy sandals. The shorts, sandals and jewelry are kept simple. This makes the paisley pattern, among various others throughout her blouse, successfully stand out. Opting for a minimal blue and white combination complements the bohemian-inspired look and avoids making the mixing of patterns look distracting.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “When choosing a pattern, go for one with a cooler color palette. I feel like royal blue and white makes the perfect color combination for summer because they balance each other out, so the pattern isn’t overwhelming. I’ve been trying to wear these colors as much as I can!”
