STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Oxford Comma

After what has felt like one of the coldest, snowiest winters New York has endured, Punxsutawney Phil’s promise of six more weeks of winter has finally passed, and we are once again hearing songbirds chirp in the mornings, putting our down parkas back into the coat closet and enjoying longer days and later sunsets.

This look felt very Vampire Weekend à la their “Oxford Comma” music video, but speaks to many types of indie rock-inspired fashions. On this dreary, overcast day, this Fashionisto’s look felt almost British, and I felt like I found him on the gloomy streets of London.

Copy this Fashionisto’s spring look by assembling key pieces to bring any hipster look to life. Begin with a piece of corduroy. This Fashionisto chose a structured brown blazer and paired it with simple black denim pants. Next, grab a V-neck sweater, preferably one with a simple pattern, and layer it under a dress shirt for a clean, sophisticated vibe that is neat and no nonsense. He accessorizes with a pair of rugged, brown riding boots and the most important of all the key pieces: rounded spectacles that take the look to another level of refinement.

All in all, he has accomplished a look that could pass as a sophisticated school teacher, an indie rock musician or a New York University student channeling either of the former!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Layering is important, especially when the weather is transitioning from winter to spring. Always make sure to layer so you’re never uncomfortably cold or hot.”
