STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Oversized Denim Jackets

While walking around Manhattan, I feel like at least every four out of five women I see are wearing denim. The double denim trend has Fashionistas pairing chambray shirts with denim skirts. Fashionistas have a good reason to be inspired—Alexa Chung’s collection for Adriano Goldschmied, which debuted about four months ago, showed us just how chic denim dresses and cropped flares can be. Furthermore, Misha Nonoo’s resort 2016 collection proved that denim everything is here to stay.

This Fashionista found a way to incorporate an oldie but a goodie, the denim jacket, in an updated and fresh way. The light wash of her jacket makes it perfect for the warmer weather. It has a distinct menswear feel due to the whitewashing and the oversized silhouette. She cuffed the sleeves to keep her hands free and her wrists uncovered, allowing her to show off some feminine bracelets. The pockets of her jacket are large enough to hold all of her essentials, like her phone, cash or credit card, lip balm, keys and student ID.

To juxtapose the masculine feel of her denim jacket, she layered it over a colorful printed dress. The vibrant blue, yellow and orange tones add vitality to her light wash jacket. The dress not only mixes colors but also patterns, such as different florals, paisleys and dots.

She paired this summer ensemble with strappy ankle boots and big sunglasses for some extra femininity and glam. To emulate this Fashionista’s style, try pairing a similar jacket, like this one, with an ultra girly dress, like the one here.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “A masculine, oversized denim jacket offsets extra-feminine looks like pastels and lace.”
