Style Advice of the Week

This season was a big one for new trends and particularly, new models. One of the most talked about new faces, Kendall Jenner, was found jet-setting from one fashion capital to the other, gracing the likes of Chanel, Marc Jacobs and Givenchy. Yet, what stands out so much about models is not just what they wear on the catwalk, but off the runway as well. A popular street style look that was made popular by the older Jenner sister and also many off-duty models is the oversized cardigan. Make no mistake; extra-large outerwear worn over petite bodies can be credited to the Olsen twins for their introduction of boho-chic in the fashion world. Lengthy cardigans, rather, have taken USC’s campus by storm.

This Fashionista is wearing a long maroon cardigan with black leggings and a loose, knit tank top. Cardigans are the trick to layering, and look best with thin tights or leggings that might look bare with a short top. While most people wear leggings with a longer shirt to cover part of the thigh, cardigans are a great alternative to a longer top. This Fashionista carries a laid-back look that displays the cardigan in its best element.

While the cardigan this Fashionista is wearing doesn’t sweep the floor like the one Kendall Jenner was spotted in arriving at the airport, it is an easier look to embrace. Extremely long cardigans that resemble capes are a fashion risk that might pay off, but you can never go wrong with a cardigan that falls just below your bottom. I love this cardigan because it is a great color that is easy to pair. Maroon is a wonderful fall (or spring!) color that matches well with neutrals, which the rest of this Fashionista’s outfit is composed of. This Fashionista completes her look with a slouchy messenger bag that is perfect for school.

Cardigans are a great touch to any outfit, whether it’s with tights or a dress. Their main purposes are to keep you warm and layered, all while looking trendy! So as you shop this weekend, pick up a long, oversized cardigan — you won’t regret it!
