STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Overall Obsessed

March 4th, 2015 at 2:00am

For those of you who haven’t heard, overalls are still in. The farmer-chic staple is a cool-girl staple, escalating simple outfits to street style staples. This Fashionista executes the trend beautifully while mixing and matching trendy piece after trendy piece for an outfit the rest of us can only pray to pull off.

Since they became cool again, I’d had a fascination with overalls. I’m always mesmerized with bloggers like Danielle Bernstein who make them look effortlessly cool, or street style beauties who seamlessly wear them with one strap dangling down. In their recent revival, the trend was adopted primarily by the “hipster” style segment, but I love that now Fashionistas/os of all styles are proudly showing their overall obsession. They add just the right tastefully eclectic feel to any look.

This Fashionista is yet another powerhouse showing a different way to work a classic garment. She shows her stripes by pairing blue pinstripe overalls with a classic black turtleneck and long black socks. I’m a strong believer that blue and black do not clash, although the opposite being that the color combination can add mood and depth to an outfit. Playing with more color, she layers a bright yellow scarf (that she knitted herself…obsessed) and a light gray beanie over her tumbling tresses. Her final color pop comes from her navy knit convertible fingerless mittens. The color perfectly highlights the slightly lighter blue of the overalls. Layering a black and white peacoat (yes, it’s still frigid here in New York) and black lace-up boots, this colorfully cohesive look is too cool for words.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid to wear whatever you want. If you like it, wear it. When you please yourself and wear your clothes with confidence, you’re powerful regardless of the outfit.”
