STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Overall, It’s Turtle[neck] Time

Let us begin by getting two things straight. Number one: yes you can wear overalls. Number two: yes, you can wear turtlenecks. No disputes to these facts will be tolerated.

From Audrey Hepburn to Leandra Medine to the cool, old polaroids of your grandma you found in the back of a desk drawer, turtlenecks and overalls both serve as timeless staples of the chic and the cool. While some may stray due to flashbacks of weird elementary school photos, these classic pieces provide a surefire way to stay cozy in wake of frigid temperatures without sacrificing one’s sophistication.

A few weeks ago I received a Snapchat from a high school classmate captioned “You wear overalls a lot now.” While I am thrilled that this is how my peers perceive the outcome of a semester free from the binds of small-town style, I would like to make something clear: I liked overalls way before starting my collegiate career. While the more common blue denim pair may be viewed as problematic for a February day, our Fashionista transcends the seasons with her tasteful, black take on the style. Full-body coverage adds warmth, while providing the edge and artistry a pair of trusty leggings and a crewneck often lack.

A woman of many turtlenecks (our kind of woman, eh?), our Fashionista chose a lovely deep green to get the job done. Currently reaching a newfound level of popularity, the timeless silhouette is available in a multitude of fabrics and colors to fit one’s taste and ideal level of toastiness.

When layered, these elements adhere to a mod dream risking the loss of neither luxury nor functionality. Worn alone or together, the simplicity of both articles allows them to be approached from eternal angles, thereby letting one’s personal style radiate through his or her choices (as is so beautifully exhibited here). The dark color palette lends to the romanticism of the colder months, while gold accessories add a touch of the glamour the sharp winds try to tear away. Leopard print, of course, is always welcome (especially in loafer form—swoon).

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My style advice for everyone is to not be afraid to go against the grain. Trends are temporary, but style is eternal. Be yourself and express who and what you are through the clothes you wear.”
