STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Out To Play In Chambray

As Independence Day draws nearer, the summery patriotic fashions have my mind reeling with all of the awesome styles that are oh-so American. Sure, the Parisians have their clean lines and stripes and the Brits have their underground edge, but the great U.S. of A boasts the best: denim…and denim all the time.

Whether you’re a proud wearer of your Levi’s or you’re Britney and Justin at the 2001 American Music Awards, I would bet my favorite pair of Topshop Joni jeans that every one of you Fashionistas and Fashionistos out there owns a dozen denim. The trend never fades, but you may in the summer heat if you try and sport a true Canadian tuxedo anytime soon! This time of year when the going gets tough (and uncomfortable in 98 degree weather), opt for chambray in place of classic denim.

The light and breathable twin of denim, chambray is a comfy and über fashionable alternative for you favorite jean jacket in the summer months. Button it up, tie it at the waist, wear it as a skirt or a dress…it’s versatile, airy and this season’s staple fabric! Throw a chambray button-up over a summery maxi for a laid-back vibe, or with a pair of feminine shorts for a flirty feel. If you’re totally down to play in chambray, try the flowy fabric in a pattern or pair it with denim for a blocking effect.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love mixing chambray with feminine dresses and then adding unique vintage looking jewelry. Adding chambray over a dress is an easy way to make your entire look more casual while still looking put together and a little bit girly!”
