Neutral. Meh, not a very exciting word or palette when thinking of colors in fashion. The color trends for summer tend to be loud and bold. However, neutral tones in an outfit can be a refreshing break from the neons and pastels of the summer months. They can work in almost any ensemble and subtly brighten up a tired look.
This week’s Fashionista is a wonderful model of how you can still be very noticeable in a neutral outfit. She incorporates white, nude and denim tones in her ensemble, creating a fresh yet sophisticated style. She starts with a classic pair of boyfriend jeans from J.Crew that elongate her leg all the way down to her strappy nude wedges. These wedges are a perfect example of how a neutral shoe is quite subtle, yet still adds visual interest through its strappy details and delicate color.
On top she wears a white peplum tank top that emphasizes her small waist and creates a great figure to accompany her slightly baggier jeans. Over her top she wears a fitted blazer, mimicking the nude color of her wedges. This blazer, with its small detailed cuffs, adds a polished element to her ensemble. She completes her look with a beaded bangle to add a little spice to her style.
As a worshipper of summer and its vivid fashions, I tend to love the bright colors of the season. However, after seeing this week’s Fashionista’s outfit, I must admit that neutrals can be every bit as exciting as strong color. With the right fits and detailing of your pieces, you can rock the noticeably neutral look with confidence!
