STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Not Your Grandma’s T-shirt

For most of us, classes are already in full swing and so is the stress of picking out what to wear. I know that I find myself in the daily struggle between wanting to look cute, but also wanting those extra couple minutes of sleep (because let’s face it, those extra five minutes between pushing the snooze button until it goes off again makes such a huge difference in our mood for the day). So, if you’re like me, you’re going to love this easy, yet chic back to school trend, the T-shirt shift dress.

One of the biggest trends being carried over from summer to fall is the T-shirt shift dress. Usually in muted colors like gray, black, burgundy or stripes, they are perfect for the transition to fall. The looseness of the dress makes it super comfortable for that lingering warm weather and for long days on campus, not to mention the fit is oh-so flattering. No more stressing about matching, slip on a dress, pair it with Converse sneakers and head out the door, confident that you are one fabulous Fashionista.

This Fashionista chose a simple and traditional black and white striped print, which makes for a classy back to school outfit. The thick black sections with thin, white horizontal stripes are flattering to the body. Her decision to add Converse sneakers, still in the same color scheme, tops off the outfit and adds the right touch of athleticism, while still looking cute and staying right on trend. The short length of the dress also makes it versatile to dress up with a pair of wedges for back to school partying at night. This look is the perfect combination of two popular back to school trends, stripes and the T-shirt dress.

Seen on celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan and Eva Mendes, the T-shirt dress truly is the perfect go-to outfit when you want to look cute, but you don’t have a lot of time to spare while getting ready in the morning. T.J. Maxx and Marshalls are great places to start when looking for them!
