STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Not Your Average Layers

Layering has been around for decades and is one trend that is not going away any time soon. During these frigid winter months, it becomes almost a necessity for warmth, not just a fashion trend. This Fashionista’s outfit jumped out at me because she managed to pull off totally fun, colorful layers without it being too busy or messy looking. I couldn’t help but notice how well put together her outfit was yet how effortless and relaxed she looked wearing it. She looks stylish and unique as she braves the recent single-digit Connecticut temperatures.

She built her layered look with a button-down flannel from Mandee under a fringe poncho from Macy’s, giving a subtle nod to the 1970s. She balanced the vibrant textures and colors on top with simple H&M jeans and some killer black boots from Burberry, giving the look a modern edge.

The best part of this layering trend is that it can be executed in several different ways. This Fashionista shows how a button-down poncho combo can work to create an effortlessly chic look with hints of tailored, boho and hippie vibes. A preppier version of the outfit could be created by wearing a collared shirt that peeps out from under a crewneck sweater. If you’re going for chicer vibes, try a neutral, knee-length cardigan over a sleek turtleneck. Thus, there are plenty of ways to try out this trend—layer on your style creativity!
