STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Not So Little, Black Dress

Thanks to Kim Kardashian, simple dresses with very minimal color are in right now. It is so easy to dress up or dress down with one. These cute and simple pieces have become a true staple in the average female’s wardrobe. If you don’t own one yourself, get to your nearest mall quick! The most common ones are usually black or white, and in different lengths. Knee-length or ankle-length, actually, just go ahead and buy yourself one of each length to be on the safe side. You know what they say, Variety is key.

You can dress these cute little dresses up with a blazer and some pumps or you can dress them down with some flats and some simple accessories. This Fashionista styled it up and toned it down with her black slitted dress and dark colors. As I always say a pop of color does the trick and that’s exactly what is going on here, with this blue beaded statement necklace that the Fashionista is wearing. The necklace draws more attention to the dress. When you look at this outfit, you look at everything other than the dress first. Everything that accessorizes the dress is what makes the dress. Like pieces of a puzzle make the big picture. The unique thing about this trend is that it is so minimal yet so easy to spot with your eyes, when worn the right way.

When styling these simple dresses there is a lot than can be done. You can add color around your neck and some ‘dangle’ to your ears or even some texture to wear on your arms; it was not hard for this Fashionista to do. Her dark green knit cardigan gives her ensemble a grunge feel. The Fashionista says that no one’s going to tell her she can’t wear her black ankle boots in the summertime. I am all for it! With a dress that has a slit like that, you’d better have some nice footwork. To put the icing on the cake, the Fashionista added a little more edge to this look with a tribal print knit cross-body bag. So why is this dress such a trend you ask? This simple dress trend is not one that easily stands out. The real secret to this trend is what you wear to complement it that makes it stand out. This ensemble she put together is what you call fashion.
