STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Not Over It

June 13th, 2016 at 2:00am

Back in the day, specifically the ’90s era, overalls were a closet essential for many. They were popular amongst all ages; in fact, if you were born in the ’90s chances are you owned a pair or two. From five-year-old Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen to 22-year-old Will Smith, these babies were worn by everyone. But, as all trends do, overalls faded out of popularity and became a thing of the past. Fortunately, one great thing about fashion is that trends repeat throughout the years. Sixteen years later, overalls are back and bigger than ever.

When you think about it, what’s not to love about overalls? They’re comfortable, chic, playful and always versatile. Whether it’s a sleek black pair of overalls worn to a girl’s night out or a slouchy light-wash pair worn to lunch, overalls can be dressed up or down for any occasion. Since their return to popularity, overalls have been made in numerous different styles and designs. Designers are even making overalls more and more similar to their sibling, the jumpsuit. I don’t know about you, but I personally love the ease of just throwing on a one-piece like overalls and heading out the door to start my day.

So how should you style your next favorite pair of overalls? Look no further than this Fashionista! She styled her light-wash overalls perfectly by pairing them with a fun Blink-182 T-shirt and spunky half-up half-down bun. I loved the way she left one flap undone to show off the cool Blink-182 T-shirt that she had tied into a crop top, a DIY I love doing myself. Paired with a pair of high-top black Converse and a fierce black choker, this Fashionista achieved a perfectly styled, trendy look.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My style advice would definitely be to be creative and inventive with your style. Being a college student, I have to be careful with how much I’m spending, especially on clothes. I love going to Goodwill and finding unique pieces that make my outfits standout while also being budget-friendly. Honestly, I think this entire outfit cost around $10. I got the overalls and shirt from Goodwill for a couple dollars, the choker is actually a stretchy headband, and someone gave me the converse for free. I’ve learned that it really doesn’t matter how much you spent on an outfit, what matters is how you style it.”
