STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Newport Prep

Fashionistos and Fashionistas, it has been a lovely semester. However, I am all too happy to empty my dorm room, slam my textbooks closed and pack up my life in Ohio for the summer. Back in Rhode Island, I’ll be able to take advantage of daily trips to the beach and some stress relieving retail therapy (finals week hits everyone hard!). One of my favorite reasons to return home to Rhode Island, however, is to visit Newport. This week’s Fashionisto has captured all of the charm and preppiness of this seaside city and I am so happy to share his marvelous style with all of you!

I am absolutely in love with this outfit. Bright colors are so summery and sunny, while casual, tailored pieces are comfortable but always classy. This Fashionisto channeled true preppy style with his simple button-down. A little bit of print (stripes are always a yes!) keeps everything interesting and adds a nautical touch that perfectly complements the brilliant color of his shorts. It’s a lovely contrast that is great for summer. The nearly neon shorts are a nice statement maker and look put together, but still are super wearable for warmer, more humid temperatures. His coordinating boat shoes finish the whole look off so nicely and keep very well with the preppy attitude of the outfit. Another plus? You could easily make this style work for you! The pieces are simple basics that are probably already in your closet. The key here is pairing them together. Bright contrasting colors, geometric prints (chevron, stripes and polka-dots, anyone?) and some fun shoes are all you really need. Bonus points are awarded for Sperry Top-Siders!

The people of Newport eat, breathe and live for preppy seaside style. Think of boat shoes everywhere, collared shirts and salmon colored shorts worn for frequent visits to the ships docked by the boardwalk. This loose, light and comfortable style of clothing is key for the warmer temperatures, sticky humidity and constant summer winds. It’s a great contribution to your wardrobe, no matter where you call home for the summer. I definitely believe that this Fashionisto would fit in perfectly!
