What better way to bring in spring than through bright colors that scream with excitement? I know all of us at Happy Valley were eager for temperatures to rise and coats to be left at home, and now that the weather is starting to break this can become a reality. The roads are clear, the sun is shining and we are all ready to tackle this home stretch into summer. With this being said, transitioning our winter wardrobe to lighter pieces can be somewhat difficult. We’re no longer focused on dark shades that fit our less than happy attitudes, but are now eager to break out the pastels and floral patterns. Among the mix of those, a trend that has definitely carried over from last spring will once again be making an eye-catching appearance: the neon trend.
The neon trend is one of my favorites simply because of how effortlessly it pushes the limits of fashion as a whole. Adding a neon piece to an outfit takes it to a completely different dimension and without a doubt makes it stand out. I am obsessed with Kate Spade’s latest line especially the Cedar Street Maise cross-body bag. While it comes in an array of choices, its electric yellow color works with every ensemble to achieve its goal of standing out as a staple accessory. It truly is a thing of beauty! Clutches and totes are not the only neons seen with the presence of spring. Patent leather neon pumps, thin cashmere pullovers and ankle pencil pants are rocking the trend as well.
While I obviously love the yellow neon this Fashionista was sporting I couldn’t help but fall more in love with the way she played it into her outfit for the day. She chose a thin knitted sweater to display the trend and made it stand out even more through pairing it with medium wash denim skinnies. This simple look kept her comfortable throughout the day but totally caught the attention of fellow students passing. To add some extra touches she chose a spiked combat boot that is also very popular this time of year, and a patterned scarf that displayed its own sense of matching brightness.
A trend such as this can seem a little scary to those who have yet to try it but I promise it is a win. Not only is it easy to achieve but it is unexpected and more exciting than some other fashion styles out there. For those who are afraid, test the waters with small accessories such as a scarf or a florescent hair wrap. Before you know it you’ll be on your way to owning the neon trend and having all of those around you in awe!
