STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Moto Go-Go

The snow is melting, birds are chirping, and we are slowly but surely packing up the parkas. The groundhog did not see his shadow so it’s time for the cold to go away so the Fashionistas/os can play. Warm weekends are a time for college students to procrastinate longer and for the Fashionistas/os to debut the hottest spring trends. Although the weather is still transitioning, so are most styles. Here in the Windy City you have to chose your outfit wisely—it must be adaptable to fit the unpredictable climates. This Fashionista shows us how to spring forward in fashion.

Moto-inspired jackets are a classic and timeless piece that can be worn throughout all seasons. What makes a jacket stand out from the crowd is the details and embellishments. Recently, within the fashion-sphere the emergence of teddy bear moto-inspired coats have made an impact on and off the runway this year. This Fashionista’s jacket is a take on this look. My eyes immediately were drawn to the jacket because of the details. The asymmetrical zipper on the bodice, the padded sleeves, the sleeve zippers, the various buckles and the brushed metallic suede made a statement on State Street. On a windy day it keeps the Fashionista warm and comfortable while venturing throughout the city.

So how does this Fashionista dress for the unpredictable weather? She had been walking around the city for a while popping in and out of stores, finding good eats and exploring, so she paired her jacket with a light heather grey cashmere turtleneck. The sweater gave her the option to take her jacket off while still keeping her warm. I absolutely adore turtlenecks and can’t wait to see this trend continue into the upcoming seasons. Her shoes are comfortable and chic as she walks down the Magnificent Mile.

Instead of the typical cross-body bag or tote bag, this Fashionista was sporting a nylon backpack over her shoulder. It’s a practical and chic bag that is easily accessible. She is able to get out her wallet while shopping on Michigan Avenue but also ready to wear if she wanted to take a bike ride along the Lakefront. It is a versatile bag and can be utilized in all weathers. It has been a major trend and it’ll be interesting to see it continue within the upcoming months that will be filled with festivals, social outings and warmer weather.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love being comfortable no matter where I am or what I am doing. Dress leisurely but polished. Have fun with your wardrobe and be yourself.”
