This weeks Fashionista shatters everything you were ever told about accessorizing and simplicity. She shows us that more really can be more.
When I ran into her at the Art Walk this past weekend, I was immediately drawn to her exquisite assortment of rings. As a girl who can only bring herself to wear one accessory at a time, I admire how effortlessly she pulls of the bohemian look that so many wish to achieve. Upon further discussion, this Fashionista let me know about the history behind her collection. An avid traveler, she collects pieces of jewelry from each of her destinations. Finger by finger she named place after place that gave birth to each and every ring.
Sound of music meets ’90s grunge, this fusion of fashion works to further prove that not every piece has to have the same look in order to pull off a unique outfit. The entire look feels very Phillip Lim spring 2013 with the playfulness of the full skirt and the more serious footwear. When I say serious I only mean the Dr. Marten style, however the silver metallic color brings us back to a less military look.
To recreate this look opt for flea markets who generally have better pricing on silver and turquoise rings. Our Fashionista let me in on this secret, and guarantees a better deal and more originality. For the rest of the outfit, I would recommend a printed tee (any print will do) with a full, mid-length skirt that you think is probably too fancy. Push it, make it a tea length or even a bit shorter however never omitting the frill. Though initially feeling like the two pieces have nothing in common, you will soon find yourself falling fast in love with how well the juxtaposition works.
At this point in time I say push the limits and rather than pairing a sandal (which would be the safest option), go bold with combat boots or some other variation of clunky footwear that keeps us wishing we were old enough to go to Nirvana concerts. Last, however not least—accessorize. Wear bangles, necklaces (plural on all fronts) and don’t stop until your limbs are drenched in fake (or real) gold and silver jewelry.
Motto of the day? When in doubt, put more on.
