This Fashionista was my hostess at Brinkley’s in Soho and I could not get over her simple frock and moto jacket combination. When I asked to snag a picture, she seemed surprised, “This? These are just my work clothes,” she said. She proves that even at the workplace, you can look chic and stand out in a crowd by sticking to a one note color scheme. Monochromatic or minimalist, they’re both hot for summer.
The summer sun may often provoke our desires to sport statement making ensembles with busy prints and loads of accessories, but sometimes sticking to one color and minimal jewels can make for an equally put-together look. Lucky for this Fashionista, her required work wear is her striped sundress from American Apparel. She added her own touches with an edgy black motorcycle jacket and black combat boots which she said she’s had forever. I don’t think she’ll have to retire either piece anytime soon, as motorcycle gear seems to be in for the trend long haul. She finished off her look with a dainty astrology necklace, adding the perfect touch of gold to her all black look.
For a an equally high-impact monochrome look like this Fashionista’s, start with a simple sundress, preferably neutral in color. Add your edgier pieces in a similar color scheme like a leather vest or black denim jacket. Top your look off with a chunky black combat boot or even a studded sneaker wedge. Vying trends like this “leather and lace” look is always a way to keep your ensemble interesting and dynamic.
