Style Advice of the Week

It seems as though the effortless combination of simple and chic styling from Fashionista/os is few and far between: this arctic winter has shed light on some rather unfavorable outfit options. Despite the never-ending snow storms, the hopeful crowd of Fashionista/os has a copious amount of spring trends in store. One of the most unexpected trends to make a major scene this season: monochrome.

Just what is a monochrome? Well, it’s an outfit constructed of just one color, or shades of one color (typically, a balance of black and white). Because of the easy styling and simplicity of monochromatic pieces, this trend is anticipated to be one of the best of the season.

By pairing her brightly colored coat to her dark leggings, this Fashionista showed off her monochromatic styling skills. The contrast in the shades of purple is just enough to avoid the colors from clashing and ruining the look. Accessorizing a monochromatic outfit is the key to making the ensemble work. The bold floral print from her Dr. Martens really livens up her outfit and acts as a cool visual element. The black, shiny texture from her tote offsets the colors of her outfit and serves as the perfect neutral accessory.

As any trustworthy Fashionista/o would tell you, “black and white never goes out of style.” However, an all black ensemble (even with a pop of white) can eventually get mundane. The monochrome trend has always been easy, flattering and in style; this spring the trend has been updated with bright colors and interesting texture mixes—trés chic!

If your go-to outfit is usually all black, at least accessorize with pops of color or experiment with texture for an ultra-cool look. If you are feeling brave, try head to toe color like this Fashionista.
