STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Modern Romantic

Fall was filled with neutrals and clean cuts. While #Normcore may be a west coast staple, I think it’s time to mix it up. Spring 2016 is a season for girly excess. Designers like Gucci, J.W. Anderson and Erdem featured frills, ruffles and florals galore in their spring ready-to-wear collections, demonstrating a more-is-more approach somewhere between Victorian luxury and over-dressed Barbie doll come to life. Bows, lace and metallics all in one outfit—what’s not to love?

When tackling this trend in real life, the sky’s the limit. I say if you want to go full cupcake, rock it with confidence. If you’d rather test the waters first, it’s also incredibly simple to integrate just a bit of frill into your usual looks. If you’re preppy, try an embroidered version of your favorite cardigan. If you’re a grungy girl, try a ruffled skirt under your leather jacket. If you dress bohemian, swap your usual maxi dress for something lacier.

Our Fashionista here nails this romantic trend in a classic way. Her adorable dress is made by English Factory. Not only is it an incredible price, but it’s also versatile. The detachable denim bow can be worn around the neck or the waist. This Fashionista kept accessories simple, picking up the color in her dress with a blue boot. It would also look great paired with an off-white stacked heel.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Mix it up! One day preppy, the next girly grunge. It’s fun to keep it interesting!”
