STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Mixing Patterns

It’s no secret that mixing patterns is a trend that has been around for a minute or two. However, while it is not a new trend, it’s absolutely perfect as summer comes to a quick end and fall peeks around the corner. Since there is no limit to the patterns you can find from store to store, there is absolutely no limit to the looks you can pull off with this trend!

The key to pulling off the multi-patterned look is simple. You need a larger, bolder print and a smaller, detailed one. Like this Fashionista, try to find a similar color or color scheme between the two prints. She chose to have the color white in both of her pieces, and this really helped pull the outfit together. For bottoms, she wore a bold, blue and white striped skater skirt, and a floral crop top. This arrangement also left a little sliver of skin showing, which gave the prints a break and looked really cute.

Also, there is definitely such a thing as too much pattern. With her Aztec print backpack, she sported a total of three patterns. In my opinion, I would say that three is the maximum amount of patterns you should put together. Anymore and you could risk killing your outfit! For shoes, this Fashionista wore a pair of flats that, instead of a pattern, have one major detail. The pattern is, of course, white, which ties is it all together!

Once again, there really is no limit to the amount of the looks you can create. While this Fashionista went with a feminine vibe, there is nothing stopping you from making yours edgy, bohemian or vintage! Dig into your closet and put pieces together that you might not normally go for!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid to put different patterned items together. Think out of the box: tights, scarves and leggings. The sky is truly your limit.”
