STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Mixing It Up

April 21st, 2015 at 2:00am

Now that the warmer weather allows us to dive into our closets, we can really mix it up in terms of colors, fabrics and styles (hello shorts, capris and sandals)! What I love about this Fashionista’s outfit is that it’s bright, exciting and has subtle details like the open back of her top and her printed shoes. The look is extremely versatile. She told me that she would wear this for a day of classes, to work and even out on a Friday night. Her expert mix of colors and styles works so well to create the perfect spring outfit.

The key to her ensemble is contrast. She explained that she loves to mix colors with prints and likes to wear a concept like floral in different ways like her statement necklace and colorful flats. The fit of her clothes also creates contrast. Her flowy shirt is best complemented with her tighter, form-fitting bottoms. There’s also contrast in pricing. You don’t need to wear all expensive items in order to make a cohesive look. This Fashionista explained that she spent a bit more money on certain items like her ASOS shirt and Steve Madden shoes, which still look awesome when paired with less expensive items like her Target necklace and Torrid jeans. Prices don’t matter when everything gels together.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Always have that go-to statement piece in your wardrobe, whether it’s a favorite pair of booties, a brightly colored top or a statement necklace. You can always build a great outfit around that one piece! Don’t be afraid to rock it. Feel good, look good!”
