STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Mixing Decades

We’ve all heard the phrase, “History repeats itself.” This is true in the fashion world as well. This summer, we have seen the reemergence of many popular styles from decades ago, such as denim skirts, off-the-shoulder tops and flare jeans. This Fashionista is seen mixing major trends from the ‘70s and ‘90s. Her flowy, bohemian style pants echo the hippie movement of the 1970s, while her oversized denim jacket reminds me of something Rachel Green would have worn on Friends in the 1990s.

I spotted this Fashionista on the streets of Boston, showing she is well versed in fashion history by combining two major trends from different decades. I couldn’t help but notice how crazy comfy she looked in this outfit. This outfit is perfect for strolling around the city, shopping or going out to lunch on a cool, summer day.

Anyone who has ever put on a pair of lounge pants knows there is no turning back; these pants will make you never want to put on a pair of jeans again! These bohemian inspired pants are as comfy as pajamas, yet can jazz up your outfit more than just a pair of leggings for a casual outing. These pants flare at the bottom, which is very on trend this summer. Finding a well fitting pair of boho pants with a cute pattern on them is honestly like winning the lottery.

This Fashionista pairs the oversized denim jacket with the wide leg, patterned pants to bring the top back to neutral, yet still explore another fashion trend. An oversized denim jacket has the same slouchy, comfy feel of boyfriend jeans. While denim jackets are always a summertime favorite, this lightweight version is perfect for casual summer outfits.

This Fashionista’s outfit caught my eye because she clearly was not afraid to take bold fashion risks when it came to mixing trends. While sometimes mixing two trends from different decades could be over the top, this Fashionista made sure to not go overboard by keeping the colors neutral.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid to go through your closet and put on an item that you haven’t worn in a long time. Trends always seem to come back into style!”
