To some people, clothes are just for getting dressed. To those of us immersed in fashion, we look at clothing as art and a form of self-expression. There are so many different variations of art. There are the simple forms of art, such as the Black Square by Kazimir Malevich, which is literally just a painting of a black square. Then there are more complex forms, such as graffiti. When it comes to clothes, mixing patterns is not always an easy task. However, I would also like to add it is not as difficult as it seems. This Fashionisto mixes patterns often and is a great example of how simple it is to mix things up.
If you don’t want to jump right into putting together two completely different patterns, start off basic. By this, I mean start off by including a solid piece in you outfit that will bring the two patterns together. In this Fashionisto’s case, his gray shirt works as a liaison for his red and blue plaid shirt and is army fatigue pants.
Another aspect to consider is your choices in color and finding themes within the outfit. These are two simple tricks that will save you from catastrophe. When it comes to the colors you are not looking for colors that match, but you are looking for colors that work well together. The idea is to use your judgment. As far as theme, you want to pick pieces that are similar in style. An example of this would be picking cotton with cotton soft colors with soft colors, preppy styles with preppy styles, etc.
Being that this Fashionisto wore his plaid shirt differing in pattern from his army fatigue pants around his waist, there was not much room for the outfit to go wrong. The idea is to add some spice to your everyday outfit by mixing up the colors and patterns. It’ll instantly make you stand out and appear as a stylish individual by default.
