STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Mix and Match

I love the opportunity fall brings when it comes to layering; it’s one of my favorite parts of fall fashion. The temperature makes it ideal to wear different sweaters over dresses, and gives you the option to change from one to the other depending on how the weather changes during the day. I’m usually a pattern lover, however, if I do pick a pattern to wear I usually just stick to one. This Fashionista is a perfect example as to how to incorporate patterns into an outfit.

This Fashionista’s paisley dress is a fun pattern by itself, but paired with the abstract camouflage print on the cardigan is even more eye-catching. The key to mixing and matching patterns is to pick a constant to tie together the look. In the case of this Fashionista’s outfit, the blue in both the sweater and dress complement each other. Although both patterns are unique, the consistency of the blue keeps the look pulled together.

Another key feature when mixing up patterns is to keep the accessories simple. This Fashionista stuck with a choker necklace and watch to add simple details to the already trendy outfit. She also paired her outfit with a simple pair of black Dr. Martens—which you can never go wrong with in my book. This Fashionista’s outfit is perfect for a day in the fall.
