STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Military-Inspired Coats

March 6th, 2015 at 2:00am

Snow has finally reached The University of Kansas and unlike most, I am super excited. Layering with different textures and colors is by far one of the best things about the cold. However, outerwear is often all we can see and of course I stare at everyone’s winter coat.

I spotted this Fashionista in one of my classes as she walked in late and while I should have been paying attention to the professor I was transfixed by her coat! She is sporting a gray-blue, military-inspired coat with gold detailing and a belted waist. These types of jackets are so versatile. Whether you are going out with your significant other, or like this Fashionista, just simply going to class, this coat pulls an outfit together and can make one look like a superstar (even if they secretly woke up just 15 minutes ago).

The military-inspired coats have definitely seen a comeback this winter season, but can be worn year-round. With the gold accents and the strong, sharp collar, these coats come in an infinite amount of forms. Here is a longer coat with a peplum bottom and although it doesn’t have metal accents, it definitely is tailored off a military look. Free People makes amazing military-inspired coats and this one is no different. I am absolutely lusting over this one. Depending on your own personal style, these coats will enhance any look you put together, day or night, summer or winter!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “On a day like today I recommend wearing warm, comfy shoes. I made the mistake of wearing UGGs yesterday and the snow destroyed them and my feet were freezing all day! This also applies to clothing. Make sure to dress appropriately.”
