STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: MAXImize Your Neutrals

As much as I love color, I always find myself wearing neutrals. Lately, I’ve also loved a minimal aesthetic. Throw on a pair of jeans and a monochromatic T-shirt, and you are good to go. That’s why when I saw this Fashionista in one of my classes, I knew I had to feature her outfit!

Her color palette really caught my eye—something that a lot of people wouldn’t say that neutrals could do. The earthy olive of her maxi skirt was the first thing that I noticed. I never thought of olive as a neutral color, but it totally is! It is more on the colorful side than black or brown, but I think that just about any other color goes great with this shade of green.

Personally, I always pair a cropped top with a maxi skirt, but I love how this Fashionista wore a loose top instead. It gives the look an overall relaxed and bohemian vibe. The top itself has a delicate braided collar that upgrades the black tank top from being simple, to being intricate.

One of my favorite things about warmer weather is the option to wear open-toed shoes. I have so many pairs of sandals that it should be illegal, but I haven’t managed to snag a pair of Birkenstocks—yet. I remember when I was younger that Birkenstocks were NOT in style. Now, they’re one of the hottest trends for the summer and this Fashionista really hit the mark. I’ve really only seen the two-strap Birkenstocks, but the three-strap version is just as cute!

I really love that utilizing a neutral palette can still make an outfit pop!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I’d say go with your gut! Even if something seems like it might not be what’s ‘cool’ right now or you’re not sure if what you’re wearing goes together, remember that you’re the one that’s dressing you, and your comfort is all that matters.”
