STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Mastering Monochromatic Moments

Summer fashion is all about making a statement with pops of color, so what better way than to scream said statement by fearlessly attacking the monochromatic trend? It may seem like a trend of the past, but more recently, monochromic ensembles have been appearing on almost every major runway. The look may seem difficult to achieve, but with the right amount of fun and imagination, an unforgettable outfit can be accomplished.

When worn correctly, a monochromatic outfit can make all the right impressions while still setting you apart from the crowd. Simply start with a top in you favorite color, such as red like this Fashionisto did, and continue with a bottom or light blazer that is a variant of your original shade. Simple enough, right? The key to owning your monochromatic look is playing with various shades and textures to add a sense of depth to your look.

This Fashionisto chose to wear a textured red top with a pair of burgundy joggers for a bright “hello” to the beginning summer break. Textured tops can be used to add an extra dimension to your look without making it too busy. Joggers are great in the sense that they are effortlessly convertible between casual and dressy, and they provide a sleek, tapered finish that can easily complement almost any style of shoe or bootie. Ankle pants are a great alternative if you feel as though joggers don’t flatter your leg shape. Along with this Fashionisto, I insist on mixing in at least one pop of a contrasting color, such as the blue of his tennis shoes or the turquoise of his gauge-style earrings. This helps to give the look a polished finish without being too “matchy.”

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Have fun with your clothes. The best trend is your attitude.”
