STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Master of Deception

With midterms on the horizon, finding the motivation to get out of bed in the morning can be a daunting task when all you have to look forward to are hour-long sessions at the library where every Powerpoint slide you revise serves as a mere reminder of how little you actually remember from the beginning of the semester. Although many people use this as an excuse to completely let go of any personal style quirks one has discovered over the summer, others find refuge in dressing to impress during this season as, unlike the grading-curves, our attires may be the only thing we’re in control of during these tough times.

This Fashionisto is an embodiment of uncomplicated and natural style that still has the wonderful effect of screaming, “I have my life together enough to dress appropriately in the morning,” yet doesn’t take more than a few minutes to pull off well. The outfit is basically made up of three components, and the subtle combination of the different hues of blue of the shirt and the trousers creates a harmonious effect that is strikingly pleasing to the eye, and even soothing to our overworked minds. The Fashionistos stylish pairing with the season-appropriate Chelsea boots in beige mocha adds an element of surprise, as well as sophistication, to the otherwise simple outfit which truly sets him aside from the sweatpants wearers. I ask the Fashionisto, “Is it possible for us mere mortals to plan such a coordinated outfit in the midst of midterms?”

He responds, “Oh it’s easy! All it takes is some very basic color blocking and a small detail to break the uniformity, and people will assume you know exactly what you’re doing.”

I could not have said it better myself.

Good luck with that paper due tomorrow which you are yet to start.
