There are some items that become fashionable that we automatically adopt and never realize how absolutely hideous they are until we’ve had a few years to let what we wore sink into our now more developed brains. For me, this item is the jean skirt. How did anyone not realize how terrible these were? For the longest time, these were popular. I’m also pretty sure by the time I finished middle school the length of the trendy skirt had also shortened dramatically. Back in those days the rule was: the shorter the skirt, the more fashionable the outfit—well at least that’s what my friends and I thought. Now skirts that short give me anxiety.
The micro mini has vanished—parents everywhere can rejoice! Like it or not, designers have decided to hide a lot of leg lately. It started with the maxi skirt trend last season. The floor length skirt was seen everywhere. This season, it’s all about its more flattering and fashionable silhouette cousin, the midi skirt. Although the mid-calf length may seem a little awkward at first, this length is flattering on pretty much everybody type. Showing a little bit of leg doesn’t make you look like you are drowning in fabric. This Fashionista is wearing a beautiful printed midi skirt. She said she loves how versatile the skirt can be. Like her, you could wear it with a pair of sandals to get coffee. Later, you can switch out the flats for a pair of heels to give your outfit a dressier feel.
She completes her outfit with an orange crocheted sweater, a teal bow and a pair of woven sandals. These items give her ensemble a laid back feel. They also complement the skirt. When wearing a large print, it is important to not have too much going on in the rest of your outfit. It’s all about balance.
This week, I urge you to add a little length to your skirt. Try wearing a midi skirt. The feminine length will be a fun change for spring.
