STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Mad For Plaid

Style Advice of the Week

As a former Catholic school girl, I never thought I would see the day that I willingly, and even proudly, wear plaid. Plaid for fall 2013 has been spotted in almost every aspect of the outfit. The famous New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham explained how the print trend evolved from a recent Californian grunge revival. As with all fashions, there are no limitations on how one can splash (or even drench) plaid into their ensemble. The fun thing about plaid is that you can go from polished, preppy school girl to a nineties grunge lover simply by switching up the accessories. From plaid shirts tied around the waist to polished plaid pants and blazers, just about any article of clothing or accessory can be found in a variation of plaid this season.

I spotted this Texan Christian University Fashionista sporting a fabulous oversized tartan printed scarf. I love that she paired the look with a neutral Rebecca Minkoff handbag, fabulous leopard loafers and chunky two-toned jewels on the wrist. This Fashionista really stands out by accessorizing with her favorite prints. She is keeping her overall look very relaxed, but polishing up the edges with the chunky bracelet and watch combination. In this case, sometimes all you need is a splash of plaid to spice up your fall wardrobe.

Don’t be afraid to go all out with your plaid before the spring season is in full effect. Plaid is a trend that can be transformed into almost any style. Forget everything you once knew about plaid. Plaid is no longer just your old school uniform, or a lumberjack’s wardrobe staple; it is your new best friend.
