STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Long Layers

Ever since I watched the musical Rent in middle school, I’ve loved all things bohemian. “La Vie Boheme” appealed to me because of its creative and carefree roots. Although a true Bohemian is someone who hails from the region of Bohemia, the word has taken on a different meaning. In today’s culture, a bohemian is anyone who is socially unconventional, and usually refers to someone who is artistic, as well.

Anyone can recognize the bohemian style of dressing. Lots of layers, oversized pieces, and handcrafted jewelry can all be used to replicate it. This Fashionista used long layers to create a free-flowing and creative look even on a hot summer day.

She started with a patterned maxi dress. Creating a look like this is a great excuse to use some bolder prints. I love the colors in her particular dress and think that they’re perfect for the season. She also added a long crochet sweater. The short sleeves aren’t too hot for July and the crochet, tassels and neutral color all scream “boho.” The dress and sweater together are a perfect pair, creating an interesting silhouette and free-spirited vibe.

To complete the look, this Fashionista added a jeweled necklace that resembles a string of flowers. Adding natural elements enhances any bohemian outfit, and can help make the look your own. The high slit of the dress also allows for her brown sandals to peek through.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I would say that when layering during the summer, make sure the pieces are open and breezy so you don’t get too hot. Other than that, feel free to mix and match pieces to create the look you want.”
