STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Lighten Up Your Leather

Style Advice of the Week

If you’re a girl who loves your leather whether in pant or boot form, parting ways in the spring can be devastating. Leather is traditionally worn black and with an attitude to match, but in the spring, everything lightens up.  When the sun comes out, replace your black leather duds with tan or camel outerwear and accessories.

Where black leather contains visual weight, camel leather appears much lighter to the eye and looks natural with lighter fabrics. This Fashionista is spot on in her camel leather coat and shoes. The light shade of her bomber jacket makes the colors on her floral scarf pop and brighten up her face. She ties her outfit together with a pair of camel leather brogues with lace detail. If floral and lace aren’t your style, this outfit would look great with a lightweight white T-shirt and a long statement necklace or simple gold jewelry. If you’re not ready to let go of your leather boots quite yet, swap them for camel leather booties for a spring-appropriate look.

If you like your outfits with a little more than a pop of color, you can find leather pieces in every hue of the color spectrum.  If you want to just dip your toe into this trend, try it with a something small like a handbag at first. But if you’re ready to jump straight in, go bold with a jacket or trousers. Just remember to keep the rest of your outfit relatively simple so your special piece can really stand out.

So, unclench your black leather goods and let a little light into your life.
