Style Advice of the Week

On a bright Saturday morning, I took a stroll across campus for an ounce of fresh air. I was pleasantly surprised to run into a Fashionista looking stylish in a vibrant patterned shirt. The lighting outdoors accentuated her top, yet the overall look emits a very cool vibe. Thanks to this Fashionista’s dark pants and shoes, her eye-catching blouse was able to steal the show.

I definitely recommend all fashion-goers to experiment mixing and matching clothes with the lighting outside. How sunny or dark it is where you live can make an enormous difference to the look you’re wearing. Fashionistas/os have already realized this trend, hence designers featuring darker-toned items during the spring and warm pastels during the winter.

Sporting a silky yellow shirt, this Fashionista stays right on point. She lets her tunic make a statement by itself. Without flashy pants or accessories, the outfit shines on its own with this simple top. As a firm believer of patterns and prints, I love mixing different prints. But it’s also great to accentuate one pattern or print by letting it stand by itself. A printed shirt can be paired with solid or neutral colored pants. Or perhaps, printed pants can be paired with solid or neutral tops. By choosing one clothing item as the main act, your look will be put together and effortless.

I can’t help but love this Fashionista’s shiny black loafers. Though it seems as though the bottom-half of her outfit is much more plain, her shoes add a pop of attitude. Loafers, which are a budding trend that can be spotted in runways and especially street style, are a great way to try something new. Taking a risk with loafers is less risky if the rest of the outfit is not too flamboyant. This Fashionista opts for black loafers to complement her black pants. They are a great addition to the entire look, matching the quirkiness of the uniquely patterned top.

Staying true to her “all-black-everything” (except for the top, of course), this Fashionista carries a small kate spade purse. The small size of the purse keeps the look casual. Tiny totes are the perfect accessories to wear, especially because they prevent you from stuffing everything you own into one bag! (I definitely have this problem.) The best thing about small bags like the one this Fashionista is carrying, is that it can be found anywhere — from online, to the mall or to thrift stores!

I have to admit I’m in love with the minimalistic theme of this Fashionista’s outfit, and cannot wait to try it out. She shines in the crowd with her electric shirt. So to all Fashionistas/os out there, don’t forget to light up your day with a bright item from your own closet, or even the store to catch someone else’s eye too!
