STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Light Layers

March 25th, 2015 at 2:00am

Although the weather is still pretty chilly, it’s been warming up here in Montana. With spring slowly starting to make an appearance, it’s almost as if we’ve forgotten how to dress for warmer weather. When we’re this deep into winter, it’s hard not to be an expert on layers, but how do you transfer those skills into dressing for spring? Never fear, saying good bye to winter does not mean saying good bye to layers. In fact, using layers is the perfect way to transition your wardrobe stylishly into the warmer weather.

This week’s Fashionista has done just that. With a sleeveless white shirt unbuttoned over the top of a simple black top, she has created an effortless layered look that is perfect for spring. Since it still can be pretty chilly in the mornings, it’s nice to be slightly covered up. This Fashionista’s skinny jeans are perfect for in-between weather because denim will keep you from getting cold, but it is still breathable enough to not break into a sweat. This Fashionista is accessorizing with a unique scrabble piece necklace, a simple brown belt and is finishing the look off with some colorful flip flops, which make a statement by adding a pop of color to the look.

Layers are always a great way to add interest to an outfit; however, they are also very practical. Depending on the temperature or your style, you can mix up the layers and have fun with them. Need to look sophisticated for an interview later on? Try a blazer or a light cardigan. Still too cool for a short sleeve? Add a flannel over the top of your look, and tie it around your waist if it warms up throughout the day. Not only is this extremely convenient, but it’s also super trendy. Can you say Tumblr, anyone?
