STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Let's Get "Waisted"

August 26th, 2016 at 2:00am

Don’t lie to yourself we know you have all got some ’70s fever this season. The 70’s are everywhere from the circle John Lennon glasses to the fringe Pocahontas vests, you can’t make your way around Portland without spotting these killer trends. The waistlines of everything are coming up and just in time to go back to school to flaunt those curves. On our radar right now are some high-waisted bell flare jeans. The pairs that grabbed this Fashionista’s attention were a pair without pockets so she could emphasize that booty she has been working on all summer.

This Fashionista looks like she was pulled straight out of That’s ’70s Show and is she rocking those high-waisted jeans or what? I am in love with how effortless her vibe is, with a simple silver necklace and a slouchy black bag she is sure to turn some heads. A key to her look is pulling looks from your closet that she already owns that way you don’t have to break the bank. You can buy one statement piece like the high-waisted flare jeans and use your favorite summer crop. Her floral crop top is the perfect length so it doesn’t show too much of her stomach and keeps all eyes on the jeans.

Playing around with your denim is the funniest part of all of this. I know skinny jeans have been your go-to over the years, but it’s time to mix it up. You can pick a lighter wash like this Fashionista did or opt for a darker pair for something a little dressier. Personally I like mine a little tighter so I can wear a flowier top and not look like I just popped out of Little House on the Prairie. The key is all about balance and proportion when it comes to finding the perfect pair of bell bottoms so alterations are a must. If the jeans look to long and you plan on mostly wearing flats or boots, spend some extra cash to get an inch or two taken up. Alterations will change your world and make those jeans look like they were made for you. Remember that jeans relax with your natural body heat so if they are a little snug in the morning they will loosen up after about an hour of you wearing them. Happy flare jean shopping my Fashionistas!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Trying new trends can be scary at first, but it is so fun to get out of your comfort zone and try something new! I picked out this pair and now they are one of my favorite pieces in my closet. Make sure to try on a couple of pairs of jeans so you can pick a pair you feel the most confident in!”
