STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Leather Weather

February 16th, 2016 at 2:05am

Chiberia is no more with temperatures dipping into the forties, indicating it’s time for the Canada Goose jackets to migrate back into the closet. Leather jackets and light sweaters are must-have staples for every college student’s closet and of course leggings are a girl’s best friend. For me, these sudden spikes in temperature are a chance to show my clothes the light of day without being bundled up in layers to prevent windburn.

This Fashionista paired a leather jacket with an oversized cream knit sweater and spiced up her outfit with combat heels. In 40 to 50 degree weather like we’re experiencing in the Windy City, one of the most important things to keep in mind for outerwear is its ability to keep you warm. Why prioritize style over comfort when you can have both by throwing on a leather jacket on top of a white T-shirt or a cool knit like this Fashionista? This sweater from Nordstrom is a versatile piece that can be worn in any season.

You can easily create a simple outfit like this Fashionista by wearing neutrals and pairing the leather jacket with a pair of leggings and black boots. Or if you’re up for it, go through the struggle to put on those jeans. If you want a day to night look, throw on a pair of heeled boots or accessorize with statement earrings. This Fashionista added a pop of color to her outfit with a turquoise Kendra Scott tassel necklace that dressed up her comfortable look. If you live in a sunny environment, throw on a pair of shades like a pair of Ray-Ban Clubmaster to block the sun.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love mixing up textures. In this case, I put together a leather jacket with a long knit pullover to create a grungy-boho look and a long Kendra Scott necklace for a splash of color!”
