Style Advice of the Week

My personal style tends to lean more towards the conservative, so I am usually hesitant to add any major changes to my wardrobe. I love classic styles and my approach to fashion is always “less is more.” That’s why when I spotted this Fashionista, I was shocked that someone could make a leather skirt look so good. I currently do not own a single item of leather clothing (aside from shoes), but after seeing her ensemble I am seriously reconsidering adding it to my shopping wish list.

Here, she pairs a leather A-line skirt with a cable knit sweater, creating an excellent contrast of textures. Where a plain black, wool skirt would have made this outfit typical and slightly boring, the leather skirt is an element of surprise; it makes her outfit edgier, especially since she is also wearing a bold red lipstick.

While stalking designers’ recent resort collections, I came across Tibi’s fabulous new collection of leatherwear. Tibi incorporates peek-a-boo lace detailing into this leather skirt for a unique look. Love Leather offers a more basic option with their skirt style in both black and white. If you are tight on money or against genuine leather products, look at Piperlime’s vegan leather skirt—they are just as cute and significantly cheaper.

So, the next time you feel like pulling on jeans again, wear a leather skirt instead. Since it is such a stand out piece, try to style it with simple pieces. Wear a monochrome sweater like this Fashionista or a classic button-down blouse. This Fashionista proved that I don’t have to change my style to incorporate a fun item like this into my outfit rotation.
