STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Learning Our Lessons

There is something to be said about the long lasting pieces of our wardrobe that have stood the test of time, the ones our mothers wore and their mothers wore before them. It’s all too easy to get caught up in the latest gotta-have-it shoe or bag of the season and to brush off the decades of style rules that have preceded us.

We can definitely learn a thing or two from icons whose style still influences popular culture after so many years. Names like Annie Hall, Katherine Hepburn and Alexa Chung come to mind. What do these three women have in common other than being gifted with effortless style and grace? They all knew a thing or two about the subtle elegance of a blazer or a pair of classic shapes.

One of my resolutions for the new year was to create my “uniform” if you will, a certain look that I could come back to time and time again, something I can pick up without even thinking. Clearly this Fashionista was on the same page with her camel overcoat and black brogues. In my opinion, there’s nothing more timeless than a camel coat for winter. Try out one in wool for the colder months or a lightweight beige trench coat is easily substituted for spring.

What’s your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “You actually just caught me meeting some friends for lunch, so I’m not too dressed up today. But my advice would be to stick with what you know and love, in the end, you’ll feel more comfortable and that will show!”
